OK to divorce in case of fornication?

Q1 Did Jesus say it was OK to divorce in case of fornication?
A1  ¡°I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, excepting for the cause of fornication, maketh her to commit adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery¡± (Mt. 5:32).

Fornication can be understood in two ways: 1/ ¡°fornication¡± in the strict sense as ¡°sexual relations between unmarried people¡±: because they were not really married, but only ¡°in concubinage¡±, practicing fornication: in such a case, to separate is a DUTY, and since they were not married, they are free to marry. 2/ ¡°fornication¡± is a wider sense as infidelity in the marriage, i.e. adultery. This is usually the sense in which the Fathers understood it. Here our Lord permits to separate BUT NOT TO REMARRY. He is indeed very clear that ¡°he that shall marry her that is put away commits adultery¡±, and hence she too! St Paul is very explicit that this is a command of the Lord: ¡°if she depart, that she remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband. And let not the husband put away his wife¡±(1 Cor. 7:11).

So what our Lord permits in case of infidelity is NOT divorce, but only ¡°separation of bodies¡±, i.e. living separately, but NOT to remarry. He is very explicit about this, and St Paul too, and the Fathers are unanimous also against divorce and remarriage.

Q2 Usually, in cases like these, it¡¯s the women who will suffer, father. Because most of the time, it¡¯s the husband who will go astray¡¦ with mistresses etc¡¦

A2  "He is the one who will suffer ¡¦ hell for that. But if the woman bears patiently her cross she will have a wonderful reward in heaven!
