배교의 역사와 파티마의 제 3비밀(로버트 J. 시스코)

악마의 꼬리는 가톨릭 세계를 와해시키는 기능을 다하고 있다. 사탄의 어두움 세력은 가톨릭교회 전반에, 심지어 교회 꼭대기까지 침투하고 퍼졌다. 신앙의 상실이라는 배교는 전 세계로 퍼지고 있고, 교회 내부 가장 높은 곳에까지 퍼지고 있다. (교황 바오로 6세, 1977년 10월 13일)

만약 우리가 시간이 생기고 나서부터 이성적인 창조의 역사를 고려해보면, 반복되는 패턴이 나타난다. 반복하고 또 반복하여 최정상에서 시작되는 대배교를 보게 된다.

시간이 최초로 생길 당시에 천주께서는 위계질서 속에서 루시퍼를 우두머리로 한 천신들의 아홉 합창단을 창조하셨다.

성 토마스 성인은 설명하길, 높은 계급의 천신들은 낮은 계급의 천신들보다 더 강력한 지성과 지식을 가지고 낮은 계급의 천신들을 계도한다고 한다.(1)

그러므로 천신의 우두머리인 루시퍼는 천신들의 위계질서에서 가장 높을 뿐만 아니라, 가장 탁월한 지성을 가진 천신이고 다른 천신들을 계몽하고 관리할 책임을 지고 있었다.

알다시피 그때까지 천주께서 창조하신 가장 위대한 피조물인 이 탁월한 천신인 루시퍼는 천주께 불순명하고 배교로 떨어졌으며, 그 와중에 천신들 가운데 1/3이 그와 함께 배교하였다. 천신들은 중얼거리길, “루시퍼 없이 올바르게 있기보단 루시퍼와 함께 잘못되는 게 낫다.”하여 자기들 소망을 따랐고, 그리하여 악마가 되었다. 그와 반면에 천국의 지명된 지도자의 배교에도 불구하고 천주께 충직하게 남았던 천신들은 즉각적으로 은총으로 견고하게 되어 지금은 천국에서 천주님과 함께 통치하고 있다.

악신들의 추락이 있은 후에 천주께서는 인간을 창조하셨다. 천주님은 최초의 인간에게 온전한 초자연적인 선물로, 육체적으로는 불멸성과 무고통(無苦痛) 그리고 주입된 지식을 주셨으니, 이는 본성에 의해 인간을 완벽하게 하였고, 뿐만 아니라 초자연적인 은총까지 주셨는데 이러함은 그의 영혼을 초자연적인 지위로 끌어올리고 그리하여 그를 “천주성에 참여하는 자”(베드로 후1:4)가 되게 하셨다.

주입된 지식의 선물로 인하여, 아담은 알려는 초자연적 속성을 가지고 있어서 모든 것을 알았다.(2)

물리적인 우주에 관한 지식, 물질적이고도 영적인 지식, 도덕법, 천주님의 속성, 그리고 자기를 지은 창조주에 대한 인간의 관계를 알았다(3)

뿐만 아니라 그를 인도하는데 필요한 초자연적인 지식과 초자연적인 목적에 대한 그의 후손들에 대한 지식도 알았다. (4)

아담이 받은 모든 선물들은 (타락이 없었더라면) 그의 후손들에게 전달되었을 것이다. 토마스 성인에 따르면, 그의 후손들이 이 선물을 받지 못했을 이유는 아담이 모든 다른 사람들의 선생이 되고자 하는 것이었기 때문이다.(5)

인류의 아버지로서, 아담은 인류를 지도하고 통치하는 것이니, 이는 마치 루시퍼가 낮은 계급의 천신들을 관리하고 계몽하는 것과 같은 것이었다. 알다시피 인류의 아버지이자 하늘로부터 지정받은 모든 인간의 선생인 아담은 천주께 불순명하고 그리하여 죄에 떨어졌으며, 이로 인하여 모든 인류의 타락의 원인이 되엇다. 그러나 추락한 천신들과는 달리. 천주께서는 인간을 버리지 아니하고 그 대신에 구속자를 보내기로 약속하셨다.

그 후 천주께서는 구속자가 그로부터 오게 될 당신의 선민 (이스라엘의 아이들)을 세우셨다. 이 선택된 민족은 천주로부터 초연적인 계시를 받았고 천주님에 의해 드러난 참 종교를 이행하였다. 이스라엘 사람들은 천주께 진정한 흠숭을 드렸고 2000년간 메시아가 오시길 갈망하였다. 그리고서, 오랫동안 기다란 메시아가 마침내 오셨을 때, 이스라엘 지도자들은 그를 거부하였고 신을 모독하는 자라 선언하였으며, 로마인들로 하여금 그분을 죽게 만들었다. 그리하여 온 유대국의 몰락을 일으켰다.

그 후 천주께서는 그가 한번 선택한 백성들의 배신과 인류의 구원 및 이교도를 구하려는 수단으로서 그리스도의 희생적인 죽음을 사용하셨다. 주님은 그리고 나서 “진리의 기둥이요 기초”(티모테오 전 3;15)이자 독점적인 구원의 방주(方舟)인 당신의 교회를 세우셨고, 모든 신자들의 머리이자 선생으로서 교황을 세우셨다. 창조 이후 이러한 패턴은 반복되고 또 반복된다. 그렇다면 결국 우리가 앞으로 일어날 기대할 수 있는 것은 무엇인가? 만약 교황 (천주님에 의해 지명된 교회의 머리이자 신자들의 선생)이 천주님으로부터 지명된 예전의 지도자들의 행동을 반복하여 수많은 영혼들을 멸망으로 이끈다면, 그리하여 신약에서 예언된 대배교를 이끈다면.... 이는 놀랄만한 것인가? 이것이 과연 놀라운 것이거나, 혹은 그 자체 똑같은 반복의 패턴인 것인가?

이제까지 드러난 파티마의 제 3비밀의 일부에서 언급되고 있는 대배교가 악마적인 방향감각의 상실로 인한 교황에 의해 올 수 있는가? 제 3비밀을 읽은 치아피 추기경(Cardinal Ciappi)의 증언을 생각해보자. 치아피 추기경은 1955년에서 1989년까지 교황청의 저명한 신학자였다. 바움가르트너(Baumgartner) 교수에게 보낸 편지에서 치아피 추기경은 제 3비밀에 관하여 놀랄만한 인정을 하였다.

추기경은 쓰기를: “예언된 제 3비밀은, 다른 것 가운데, 교회 내에서의 대배교가 최상층에서 시작될 것이다.”(6)

주목해야 할 것은, 추기경은 “최상층 근처”라고 말하지 않은 것이고, “최상층”에서 라고 말한 점이다. - 우리가 보아 온 똑같은 패턴이 역사를 통하여 반복되었다.

1984년에 있은 인터뷰에서 라징거 추기경(Cardinal Ratzinger; 후일 베네딕토 16세) 역시 파티마의 제 3 비밀에 대하여 말하였다. 인터뷰 청한 이가 물었다:“파티마의 제 3비밀이라 부르는 것을 읽으셨나요?” 놀랍게도 추기경은 “그렇다”하였고, 거기에 담긴 내용에 대해 이야기를 하였다. 추기경은 말하길, “‘제 3비밀 안에 담긴 내용은 성경에 예고된 것과 일치되는 것이고, 많은 다른 성모님 발현에서 반복되어 발표된 것과 일치합니다.” (번외로, 요한 바오로 2세에 대한 실패된 암살시도를 언급한 것이 성경 어디에서 있는지 물어야 한다)

계속해서 라칭거 추기경은 제 3비밀이란 “신앙을 위협하는 위험... 그리고 마지막 때[novissimi]의 중요성”이라 하였다. 우리는 제 3비밀을 읽은 고위 성직자가 제 3 비밀이란 신앙을 위협하는 위험이라고 언급하는 것을 다시 보게 된다.

그러나 아마도 가장 흥미로운 진술은 바로 바오로 6세 자신이 (파티마) 태양의 기적 60주년 기념일에 행한, 그 당시에 교회의 바로 최상층(교황)에서 일어나는 배교에 대해 발언이었으니, 이는 치아피 추기경(Cardinal Ciappi)이 바움가르트너(Baumgartner) 교수에게 쓴 편지내용을 확인해 주는 것이다. 다음은 바오로 6세가 1977년 10월 13일에 했던 발언이다:

"악마의 꼬리는 가톨릭 세계를 와해시키는 기능을 다하고 있다. 사탄의 어두움 세력은 가톨릭교회 전반에, 심지어 꼭대기까지 침투하고 퍼졌다. 신앙의 상실이라는 배교는 전 세계로 퍼지고 있고 교회 내부 가장 높은 곳에까지 퍼지고 있다." (7)

바오로 6세가 파티마 기념일에 행한 이 발언이 그저 우연인 것인가? 그런 것 같니 않다. 오히려 제 3비밀에 담긴 것을 드러내고 있는 것처럼 보인다.

그렇지만 만약 이것이 제 3비밀에 담긴 내용이라면, 언제 배교가 시작된 것인가? “최상층”에서 – 교회의 바로 “최정점(最頂点)”에서 시작되는 이 대배교의 시작으로서 우리가 볼 수 있는 구체적인 날자가 있는가?

파티마의 루시아 수녀가 파티마 사건에 관하여 1959년에 Fr. Fuentes와 행한 유명한 인터뷰에서, (봉쇄) 수도원에 은둔했던 그 수녀는 인터뷰를 청한 신부에게 다음과 같은 질문을 하였다:

“신부님, 1960년이 되려면 얼마나 시간이 남았나요?” 왜 루시아 수녀는 1960년을 물었을까? 그리고서 설명을 계속했다. 수녀는 이 날짜가 언제 오는지를 묻고서, “모든 이들에게 매우 슬픈 것이 될 것입니다. 사전에 세상이 기도와 보속을 바치지 않으면 그 어느 누구도 기뻐하지 않을 겁니다.” 그리고 다음과 같은 말로 끝을 맺었다. “비밀로 유지해야 하기 때문에 다른 세부사항을 줄 수가 없군요.”

제 2차 바티칸 공의회를 위한 물밑 작업 준비가 된 것은 1960년이었는데, 수에넨 추기경(Cardinal Suenens)이 후일 이차 바티칸 공의회를 “교회내의 프랑스 혁명”이라고 묘사하였고, 세계 1차 대전과 2차 대전 기간 동안 살았던 이차 바티칸 공의회의 또 다른 참석자인 어느 대주교는 제 2차 바티칸 공의회를 “내가 살아오면서 이제까지 겪은 것 가운데 가장 큰 전쟁”이라고 묘사하였다. 

 

이 “사목적 공의회”는 – 심지어 최종 회기가 끝날 때까지도 교회에 혼란을 가져다주었다. 재앙의 공의회가 끝난 1년 후, 드포 신부(Fr. Depau)가 바오로 6세에게 쓴 글을 생각해보자.

그 이전에 교황은 드포 신부를 가톨릭 전통주의자 운동의 수장으로서 임명하였는데, ‘이미, 이때, 1965년 12월 1일’ 드포 신부는 바오로 6세에게 글을 썼으니, 그 내용은 ‘성하께서 저에게 우리 교회가 교회 역사에서 가장 심각한 위기를 겪고 있으니 그걸 알아보라‘ 고 요청하셨다는 것입니다. 만약 우리 교회의 그와 같은 상태에 대한 묘사가 그 당시 진짜였다면, 오늘날의 교회는 과연 똑같은 것이라 할 수 있을까! 더 훨씬 악화되었다고 말하는 것이 절제된 표현이라 할 것이다. 오늘날의 가톨릭교회 상태는 교리적 이단, 사실적 분열, 심지어 배교를 능가한다. 최초의 우리의 전례와 다른 전통 그리고 지금 우리의 믿음과 도덕에 대한 체계적인 파괴로 비롯된 혼돈과 완전한 붕괴 상태인 것이다.(8)

만약 저 편지가 1960년대에 교회를 묘사한 것이라면, 오늘날 교회를 묘사하는 데에 쓰일 수 있는 말들은 무엇일까?

보는 눈을 가지고 있는 사람에게 있어서, 교회는 지금 전대미문 규모의 위기를 겪고 있는 중이다. “최상층”에서, 교회의 바로 “최정점”에서 시작된 대배교, “사목적 공의회”라는 수단에 의한, 그리고 저들 교황의 선한 의도가 무엇이든 간에 그럼에도 불구하고 여러 명의 교황이  가톨릭 세계에 새로운 질서, 빠르게 흩어지어 혼돈으로 빠진 그 질서를 떠맡게 되었다. 우리는 지옥의 문이 퍼지지 않을 것 (교회를 이기지 못할 것) 이라는 약속을 가지고 있다. 교황이 이단을 정의하는 데에 있어서 무류에 실패할리 없으니, 왜냐하면 이것은 무류성이라는 카리스마와 어울리는 것이 아니기 때문이다. 그러나 주님의 약속을 위반하지 않고, 천주께서 허용하지 않으실 것이라는 것을 믿는 이유는 없는 것이고, 그리고 실제로 허용하셨기에 교회의 최상층까지 도달하는 신앙의 위기가 있는 것이니, 그러므로 창조의 시작 때부터 계속해서 반복되어 온 반란과 유사한 배교를 가져오는 것이다.

현대주의자들인 저들은 교회의 멸망을 위해 저들의 계획을 가동하였으니, 외부가 아닌 교회 내부에서 시작한 것이다. 그래서 그 위험이 지금은 교회의 거의 모든 정맥과 심장에 퍼져있다. 교회의 상처와 부상이 보다 더 확실해질수록, 교회에 대한 저들의 지식은 더 환한 것이다. 더욱이 저 현대주의자들은 교회의 잔가지나 줄기에 도끼를 대고 있는 것이 아니라, 교회의 뿌리에 대고 있으니, 즉, 신앙에, 교회의 가장 뿌리 깊은 핵심부분에 도끼로 찍고 있는 것이다. 이 불멸성의 뿌리에 타격을 한 후에, 저 현대주의자들은 전체 나무를 통해 독액을 뿌렸다. 그래서 저들의 손에 쥔 곳에는 가톨릭의 진리가 없고 부패시키려고 온갖 노력을 다한다. (9)

공의회 때부터, 교황들 자신이 꼭대기부터 바닥에 이르기까지 교회를 황폐화 시키는 그와 같은 현대주의자들의 오류를 포용하였을 보고 있는 것이며, 저것은 교황 성비오 10세께서 1907년에 경고한 것이니, 그때에 그 성인 교황은 이러한 오류들이 교회의 “바로 정맥이자 심장에서” 찾아볼 수 있을 것이라 인정하였다.

 전대미문 규모의 이러한 교회 위기 속에서, 우리는 ‘성인들에 의해 한번 전해진 신앙“을 확고히 잡고 있어야 하고 바오로 성인의 말씀을 결코 잊어서는 안 된다;

”우리가 너희에게 전한 것과 다른 복음을 전한다면, 저 저주를 받을지로다.“(갈라타1:8-9)
 

The History of Apostasy And the Third Secret of Fatima

If we consider the history of rational creation from the beginning of time, a repeated pattern emerges: over and over again, we see a great apostasy that begins at the top.

At the beginning of time, God created the nine choirs of angels, in hierarchical order, with Lucifer as the head.  St. Thomas explains that the higher angels possess a more powerful intellect and a greater knowledge than the lower, and that the higher angels enlighten those beneath them. (1)  Therefore Lucifer – the chief angel - was not only the highest in hierarchical order, but was also the angel with the greatest intellect, and the one responsible for enlightening and governing the others.

As we know, this magnificent angel – the greatest creature God had created up to that time – disobeyed God and fell into apostasy, and in so doing brought one third of the other angels with him.  The angels who thought to themselves, “we would rather be wrong with Lucifer than right without him”, got their wish and became demons, while those who remained faithful to God, in spite of the apostasy of their divinely appointed leader, were immediately confirmed in grace and now reign with God in heaven.

After the fall of the bad angels, God created man.  He endowed the first man with the preternatural gifts of integrity, bodily immortality, impassibility, and infused knowledge, which perfected him according to nature, as well as the supernatural gift of grace, which elevated his soul to the supernatural level, thereby making him a “partaker of the Divine Nature” (2 Peter 1:4). By the gift of infused knowledge, Adam knew all that he had a natural aptitude to know (2), including knowledge of the physical universe, both material and spiritual, the moral law, the Divine Attributes of God, and man’s relationship to his creator” (3), as well as the supernatural knowledge necessary to guide him and his descendants to their supernatural end. (4) All of the gifts Adam received would have been passed down to his posterity, with the exception of infused knowledge. The reason his descendents would not have received this gift, according to St. Thomas, is because Adam was to be the teacher of all other men. (5) As father of the human race, he was to instruct and govern mankind, just as Lucifer was to govern and enlighten the lower angels. As we know, Adam, the father of the human race and divinely appointed teacher of all men, disobeyed God and fell into sin, thereby causing the Fall of the entire human race.  But unlike the angels who fell, God did not abandon man, but instead promised to send a Redeemer.

Next God established His chosen people – the children of Israel – from whom this Redeemer was to come. This chosen race received supernatural revelation directly from God, and practiced the true religion revealed by God.  The Israelites offered God true worship, and longed for the coming of the Messiah for two millennia. Then, when the long-awaited Messiah finally arrived, their leaders rejected Him, declared him a blasphemer, and had Him put to death by the Romans, thereby causing the fall of the entire Jewish Nation.

Next, God used the betrayal of His once-chosen people, and the sacrificial death of Christ, as the means of Redeeming mankind and saving the Gentiles.  He then founded His Church, the “pillar and ground of truth” (1 Tim 3:15) and exclusive Ark of Salvation, and placed the Pope as the head and teacher of all the faithful.

Now, with the pattern that has been repeated over and over again since the beginning of creation, what should we expect to happen at the end? Would it be a surprise if the Pope – the divinely appointed head of the Church and teacher of the faithful – repeated the actions of the former divinely appointed leaders and bring countless souls to destruction, thereby bringing about the great apostasy predicted in the New Testament?  Would this be a surprise, or simply the same pattern repeating itself?

Could the great apostasy brought on by diabolically disoriented popes be what is spoken of in the portion of the Third Secret of Fatima that has yet to be revealed?  Let’s consider the testimony of Cardinal Ciappi who read the Third Secret. Cardinal Ciappi was a distinguished theologian from the pontifical household from 1955 to 1989.  In a letter to Professor Baumgartner, the Cardinal made an astonishing admission about the Third Secret.  He wrote: “In the Third Secret it is predicted, among other things, that the great apostasy in the Church will begin at the top.” (6) Notice, he didn’t say it would begin “near the top”, but “at the top” – the same pattern we have seen repeated throughout history.

In a 1984 interview, Cardinal Ratzinger also spoke of the contents of the Third Secret of Fatima.  The interviewer asked: “Have you read what is called the Third Secret of Fatima?” To his surprise, the Cardinal answered “yes”, and then went on to discuss what it contained. The Cardinal said “the things contained within the ‘Third Secret’ correspond to what has been announced in Scripture and has been said again and again in many other Marian Apparitions”.  (As an aside, we must ask where Scripture speaks of the failed assassination attempt of John Paul II?)  Continuing on, the Cardinal said the Third Secret speaks of “dangers threatening the Faith… and the importance of the ‘novissimi’[the end times].”  Once again we see a prelate, who had read the Third Secret, state that it refers to dangers threatening the Faith.

But perhaps the most interesting statement comes from Paul VI himself on the sixtieth anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun, during which he spoke of apostasy at the very “summit” of the Church, which confirms what Cardinal Ciappi wrote to Professor Baumgartner.  Here is what Paul VI had to say on October 13, 1977:

 

The tail of the devil is functioning in the disintegration of the Catholic world. The darkness of Satan has entered and spread throughout the Catholic Church even to its summit. Apostasy, the loss of the faith, is spreading throughout the world and into the highest levels within the Church.  (7)

Is it just a coincidence that Paul VI made this statement on the anniversary of Fatima? It seems unlikely.  It seems more likely that he was revealing what is contained in the Third Secret.

But if this is what the Third Secret contains, when would it begin?  Is there a particular date that one could look to as the beginning of this great apostasy that would begin “at the top” – at the very “summit” of the Church?

In the famous 1957 interview of Sister Lucy of Fatima with Fr. Fuentes, about the events of Fatima, the cloistered nun asked her interviewer the following question: “Father, how much time is there before 1960 arrives?”  Why would she ask about the date 1960?  She then went on to explain.  She said when this date arrives, “it will be very sad for everyone, not one person will rejoice at all if beforehand the world does not pray and do penance.”  She then ended by saying: “I am not able to give any other details because it is still a secret.”

In 1960 preparations were underway for the Second Vatican Council, which Cardinal Suenens later described as “the French Revolution in the Church”. Another attendee of the Council, an Archbishop who had lived during both WWI and WWII, described Vatican II as “the greatest war I have lived through”.

This “pastoral council” brought chaos to the Church – even before the close of its final session.  Consider what Fr. Depau wrote to Paul VI just one year after the close of the disastrous council. 

‘Already then, December 1, 1965’ wrote Fr. Depau to Paul VI, who had appointed him as the head of the Catholic Traditionalist Movement, ‘Your Holiness asked me to realize that our Church was going through ‘one of the gravest crises in its history.’ If such a description of our Church's condition was true then, how much more can the same be said of our Church today! To say that it has gone from bad to worse would be the understatement of the century.  Today's condition of the Catholic Church is beyond the point of doctrinal heresy, factual schism and even apostasy. It is in a state of chaos and utter collapse resulting from the systematic destruction of first our liturgical and other traditions, and now our very beliefs and morals. (8)

If that letter describes the Church in the 1960’s, what words could be used to describe the Church in our day?

For those who have eyes to see, the Church is undergoing a crisis of unprecedented magnitude:  a great apostasy that began “at the top” – at the very “summit” of the Church, by means of a disastrous “pastoral council”, and a series of Popes who, whatever their good intentions may have been, were nevertheless induced to attempt to foist a new order upon the Catholic world—an order which is rapidly unraveling into chaos. We have the promise that the gates of hell will not prevail; neither will a Pope ever infallibly define a heresy, since this would be incompatible with the charism of infallibility. But without violating any of His promises, there is no reason to believe that God will not permit, and indeed has permitted, the crisis of Faith to reach the very summit of the Church, thereby bringing about an apostasy similar to that which has been repeated over and over again since the beginning of creation.

Since the Council, we see that the Popes themselves have embraced the same modernist errors that are ravaging the Church from top to bottom and that were warned against by the great St. Pius X in 1907, when he admitted that these errors were to be found “in the very veins and heart” of the Church:

They [Modernists] put their designs for her [the Church’s] ruin into operation not from without but from within; hence, the danger is present almost in the very veins and heart of the Church, whose injury is the more certain, the more intimate is their knowledge of her. Moreover they lay the axe not to the branches and shoots, but to the very root, that is, to the faith and its deepest fibers. And having struck at this root of immortality, they proceed to disseminate poison through the whole tree, so that there is no part of Catholic truth from which they hold their hand, none that they do not strive to corrupt. (9)

In this ecclesiastical crisis of unprecedented magnitude, let us hold firm to “the faith once delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:8), and never forget the words of St. Paul: “If anyone preach to you a gospel, besides that which you have received, let him be anathema” (Galatians 1:8-9).
